PhD in ChemistryIn recent years, more people are interested in getting a PhD in Chemistry or Biochemistry, as they make careers out of the field. As a result, there is a large market of PhD programs for all kinds of students who are interested in pursuing this kind of a career.Of course, there are several elements that go into an academic pursuit like a PhD in Chemistry or Biochemistry. Since the discipline of Chemistry has been with us for hundreds of years, the degree is a must have for any chemist. Also, since it is a science that has multiple facets, students who plan to get a PhD in Chemistry must master all of these aspects.Like most other disciplines, a PhD in Chemistry requires learning how to work with ingredients and how to handle laboratory equipments. Although this knowledge is not learned from a book or a lecture, there are many books and materials available to help the student in their learning. Some of these include textbook sections, practice tests, labs and presentat ions.The individual does not have to study every aspect of Chemistry, as it covers many different research areas and fields. However, students may still choose to take a course in one of the many research areas that the field covers. For example, chemists studying in chemistry labs could choose to study biochemistry, biophysics, cell biology, or even physics.Since a PhD in Chemistry or Biochemistry requires study under the supervision of a professor, students must have the aptitude and the talent to teach. The individual must also have a strong work ethic to help students succeed. One way that this can be achieved is through lab work.Since students will be working in laboratories, it is important for them to be proficient at doing their jobs. As a result, the individual must have excellent patient dealing skills as well as self-disciplineto ensure that the students work together in the right manner. This type of interpersonal skills can be gained through participation in research pr ojects, seminars, and mentoring.As a part of a PhD program, students must participate in both academic and extra-curricular activities. These range from projects in the school library, contests at a local industry conference, volunteer hours at a local hospital, and more.
